Golf Course Maintenance 2 Comments
Well the last month of winter really didn’t provide much of the cold snap that we were all expecting. To be honest I don’t really think we had a real winter; it certainly was the driest one we’ve had for several years & still no frosts recorded. Officially 83mm of rain was collected of which 68mm fell over two days. We continued during the month with our construction projects with the 18th tee receiving a new sleeper wall & garden. Still the best finishing hole on any golf course the new look tee area only enhances this fantastic hole.
With spring just around the corner we have started the mechanical practises to encourage new growth coming into spring. All Greens & Tees have been aerated with solid tynes (so as not to disrupt the golfers) & fertilised with liquid fert’s. All fairwayswere also given a liquid feed which resulted in a terrific definition between them & the rough(see attached pictures).
On the greens:
Ø Two applications of liquid fert
Ø One application of preventative insecticide (black beetle larvae)
Ø One application of miticide (couch mite)
Ø One application of fungicide
Fairway renovations this year will occur from the 13thof September through to the 24th.
This year we will be aerating with hollow tynes, applying gypsum to break up the clay particles in the soil &finally fertiliser with a 50% upfront 50%slow release granular fertiliser.
Watch them jump out of the ground!
See you on course.
